Have you ever dreamed of being Indiana Jones? Traveling to out of the way places and finding that lost treasure? Well they frown on carrying bullwhips but you can be a modern day version. Hundreds of people a year take part in Volunteer Archeological digs all around the world. Seems there is more to finding ancient cities and artifacts than going in a cave and dodging lethal traps just to find the golden statue sitting on a pedestal.

Universities, Societies and Governmental Agencies are all involved in archeological research and they often need help.Volunteers handle all sorts of jobs from excavating sites, cleaning and cataloging artifacts, support services at the site and other jobs. Normally you pay your own way but you were going to spend money on a vacation anyway, right? You might as well have the chance to make that great discovery. And there are more opportunities than you might think. From Israel to Peru, Montana to Revolutionary War battlefields, there are digs worldwide. From one or two days to a month, or maybe more, there are archeological fieldwork opportunities or digs as they are referred to that will suit the Indy in you.

 By doing your initial digging on the internet you can apply for local, national or worldwide opportunities. Some of the places that can get you started are listed.

There are many more but this is a good start. Research the sites, ask questions apply for a volunteer position and you might be the one that recovers that important piece of history.
